Education

Her expertise with an MS and an MPH in Global Health from Boston University, aligning her passion for both science and public health. This educational journey culminated in a medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University and a pediatrics residency at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx, where she trained under some of New York’s top pediatricians. read more

Dr. Kim has demonstrated strong leadership throughout her career, serving as the Founder and President of the Physicians for Human Rights SUNY Upstate Chapter from 2014 to 2016. She also contributed as a Board Member on the Physicians for Human Rights Student Advisor Board from 2015 to 2018. In addition, she founded and led the Refugee and Immigrant Self-Empowerment (RISE) Women’s Art Therapy Program, further showcasing her commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and promoting health equity. read more

Driven by a passion for global health, Dr. Kim pursued medicine with a focus on underserved communities, conducting evaluations and founding an art-based mental health program for women and girls. She further expanded her skills at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Emergency Department, widely regarded as one of the top hospitals in the country, treating a wide range of pediatric conditions, from routine ailments to severe traumas. Dr. Kim has been recognized with several prestigious accolades, including the 2016 Physicians for Human Rights National Leadership Award and the SUNY Upstate Medical University Citizen’s Award in 2015 and 2016 for her community service. In 2020, she received the Teaching Award from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, honoring her excellence in medical education and mentorship.

Outside of work, Dr. Kim enjoys dancing, mainly in musical theater and jazz styles, but also in contemporary, hip-hop, salsa, and Latin fusion often found at Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Center. She’s an avid traveler who loves exploring new cultures and landscapes, from jungle hikes overlooking beaches to scuba diving with sharks.
